The United States Supreme Court, on June 28, 2000 struck down a "partial-birth abortion" statute enacted in Nebraska. The Court held that the Nebraska statute was unconstitutional under the Federal Constitution because it placed an undue burden on a woman's ability to choose. In response to the Supreme Court's ruling, the state has abandoned its appeal of an Alaska Superior Court decision striking down Alaska's ban on "partial-birth abortion."
